Silent Spectators  at Omgeving Celbeton Dendermonde05/05/2023 - 30/07/2023

Silent Spectators - audiovisual diary. Collaborative project with Yasaman Tamizkar‘Mountains in Iran are symbols of resistance,’ I said. ‘What do they mean here?’
‘We have no mountains here.’
‘From where do you seek resistance then?’

Silent Spectators is a collaborative audio-visual diary made in 2023 by Yasaman Tamizkar (Iran, 1991) & Lizzy Zaanen (Netherlands, 1991). It is a personal story written and narrated by Yasaman, diving back into childhood memories and thoughts regarding the mountains in Iran. These ‘Silent Spectators’ symbolize freedom, safety, guidance but most importantly today they symbolize resistance. The narration is guided with black and white slow-motion video works by Lizzy, supporting the stories and feelings of Yasamans personal story. This video project is accompanied by another video compilation with footages taken by anonymous reporters in Iran during the ‘Women Life Freedom’ movement. The Silent Spectators are both playing the main roles, being witnesses of different events in history in Iran.

For this exhibition I chose to show my blurry world of Kidizoom photo’s which were part of my process of getting to know my surroundings and myself in Den Haag. All photo’s are taken around the Westduinpark area and my house, forming a serie of 4 that tell the story of me trying to find a sense of home.
